  • Liverpool Oratorio live in Ghent for Christmas

    On Saturday December 26th, Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio will be performed  live   in the O.L.V. Sint-Pieterskerk in Ghent.

    There will be two performances, at 3 and 8 PM.

    Some 160 singers and musicians united in Arte Musicale will be joined by soprano Helena Maes, alto Anita Dur, tenor Denzil Delaere and bass Wilfried Van den Brande.

  • Come On The Rolling Stones Documentary

    On the occasion of  the 50th anniversary of the recording of The Rolling Stones' first single, Come On, on Friday 10 May, La Deux will air a half-hour documentary for which Johan Ral did the research and wrote the script.   Filmed on location in Dartford, Richmond, Ealing and London and presented by Marc Ysaye.

    Johan will join Marc on Classic 21 for a two hour special, from 9 to 11 AM, retracing the Stones' early history - and he will be a guest in Sonar on Radio 1 in the afternoon.

    Nowhere Boy, the 2009 biopic about John Lennon’ adolescence, is now available on DVD with subtitles in Dutch.
    There is also a deluxe edition with a richly illustrated booklet and an Ultimate Rock 'n' Roll soundtrack CD featuring John Lennon, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.
    Based on the biography written by Lennon's half-sister Julia Baird and set in Liverpool in 1955, Nowhere Boy tells the story of a young man, torn between his mother and aunt, as he forms his first band and escapes into rock’n roll.

    Johan Ral had the pleasure of interviewing Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues on the occasion of the deluxe reissuing of the five classic Moody Blues albums produced between 1967 and 1970, from Days of Future Passed to A Question of Balance.
    The 30+ minutes phone interview will be used next Saturday, 29 April in Shuffle (Flemish speaking public Radio 1) and will be the basis for a 2-hour special in Marc Ysaye’s Classic Rock (on French speaking public radio Classic 21) on Sunday 30 April 2006, between 9 and 11 AM.

    Johan Ral and Betty Mellaerts attended both the Adopt-A-Minefield gala dinner in Los Angeles on 15 October and the Bridge School Benefit in San Francisco on the 24th. Both featured Neil Young and Paul McCartney -- the Bridge School Concert also featured Ben Harper, Eddie Vedder, Sonic Youth, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and... the legendary Tony Bennett, who did an unforgettable duet with Paul on "The very thought of you".     Johan Ral and Betty Mellaerts had the great honour and immense pleasure to interview Ravi Shankar at his home in California, on 18 October. Johan will play excerpts from the 40-minutes interview in Classic Rock on Sunday morning 14 November, between 11 and 12. The interview will also be used for a one-hour Shankar Special on the VRT's classical station Klara (scheduled for the 27th).   • Exclusive: Martin Sharp and Cream in Classic Rock

    Johan Ral and Betty Mellaerts had an exclusive interview with the legendary Martin Sharp at his home in Sydney, Australia. Martin, one of the founders of the OZ Magazine, who shared a flat with Eric Clapton during the Cream days, designed the covers of the Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire albums and wrote the lyrics to the Cream songs Tales of Brave Ulysses and Anyone for Tennis.   • Astrid Kirchherr Exhibition & Beatles Jazz in Brussels

    The Belgian Beatles Society sponsors the exclusive exhibition of original sixties pictures of the Beatles and others by the legendary Hamburg photographer Astrid Kirchherr.

    The exhibition runs from 20 May to 15 June, every day from 10AM to 7PM.
    Late-night openings on 23 and 29 May, from 10AM to 10PM.
